Trapani thermoelectric power plant

Trapani thermoelectric power plant occupies an area of 9.2 hectares. It is located in the western part of Sicily, about 15 km south-east of the city of Trapani. It consists of two OCGT (Open Cycle Gas Turbine) units powered by natural gas with net installed capacity of 213 MW.

A renovation project to replace the current units with 4 new OCGT units of equivalent power has been authorized and an electrochemical storage project (BESS) for a total of 100 MW has been submitted, within the perimeter of the existing power plant.

Environment, health and safety’s protection

The power plant was one of the first industrial sites in Sicily included in EMAS Register.

It is part of the Energy Authority list of essential plants for the safe operating state of the western area of the Sicily in an alternative scheme, in particular, the site has a crucial role in case of blackout in the power restoration procedure of the power grid managed by Terna.
